Basil, probably domesticated in India would have taken in the West by Alexandre le Grand soldiers about 300 years before our era. The Greeks have adopted it to at the outset and, following them, the Romans. It will grow throughout the Mediterranean basin. However, it will appear in France in the 12th century.
