Artichoke

Artichoke

Cynara scolymus
The artichoke, a large thistle bristling with thorns ? Probably came from Africa and moved to Tuscany. The coming of the artichoke in Italy is traditionally associated with the character of Catherine de Medicis : she brought artichoke in "dot " during his marriage to King Henry II of France. Who knows why, from the Middle Ages until the nineteenth century, artichoke was known to have aphrodisiac virtues ... ! This is where the expression " have a heart of artichoke " was born : to have a too tender heart and give it to as many people as there are leaves (bractea) on an artichoke ! This print is created in an art workshop, signed, numbered and limited to 150 prints, from an original botanical watercolor.
